Talent Acquisition x Creativity: How we can Elevate Experiences
Amy Schultz - Canva

Summary:

What do Airbnb and Canva have in common? People thought the creative idea of renting out your room or house to strangers for short stays was the worst idea in the world and Melanie Perkins, Canva’s CEO, famously received over 100 no’s from investors on her idea to start a creative design company. Turns out creative thinking can lead to designing and delivering something that people actually do want!

With the pace of change in our world, creativity should be in our conversations, in how we approach problems, in how we visually communicate and in how we differentiate ourselves. People often believe they can’t think creatively, because they “aren’t a creative person” and Talent Acquisition isn’t always known for its creativity – in Amy’s session, she’ll bust these myths! You’ll learn skills and daily habits that enable creativity and how Canva uses creativity to create their candidate experiences, collaborate across teams and build their products.

Amy Schultz

Global Head of Talent Acquisition, Canva

Talent Acquisition Reimagined: Keeping Pace with an Evolving Workforce
Craig Goldblatt - G-P

Summary:

A growing preference for flexible work arrangements, increasing travel and movement among workers constantly on the move, and fewer job applicants despite increasing job vacancies – the new world of work has dramatically changed candidates’ expectations for their future employers.

As a result, employers in Australasia are facing considerable challenges as they respond to employees’ evolving needs. In this new world of work, how should business leaders respond and move ahead? How can companies rethink their talent acquisition strategies to keep up with these constant changes and stay ahead of their competition?

In this session, we will explore:

  • Critical workplace trends shaping the Australasian talent market
  • How to overcome recruitment challenges
  • How to respond to employees’ evolving needs and expectations

The ability to gain commitment, budget and resources to optimise your Talent Function and achieve your desired TA outcomes is key, yet in many companies 85% of all internal submissions for budget and resources fail.

Tony will teach you how to sell your idea or project internally and positively influence outcomes and specific strategies and frameworks including:

  • Talking the language of leaders with the right communication hierarchy
  • ‘Flip it’ to break through within the ‘7 second attention clock’ the three questions that reframe commercial conversations

TA – EVP Architects or Real Estate Agents? (Room: Crystal Palace UP)
Clint Williams - Lion
Brie Mason - Employer Brand Mason

Summary:

The workforce has faced an existential crisis and has had two years to stop and think about what is truly important.

The clash of employee experience versus changing expectations means that creating an EVP that is credible, exciting and relatively constant has become a challenge. TA’s role of EVP Architect has become flawed.

In this buyer’s market, we aren’t in a position to simply renovate the kitchen or add a pool if it’s found that’s what the buyers now want.

Brie and Clint will discuss the need to gain alignment on a change in EVP mindset and approach, and a redefinition of roles and responsibilities.

Talent Acquisition as a Supply Chain (Room: Big Top UP)
Kevin Wheeler - Future of Talent Institute

Summary:

Recruiters rarely think about recruiting as a supply chain, yet it is one, and it is as critical as any other. The talent shortage is as much a result of the lack of well thought out talent supply strategy and strategic thinking as it is a shortage of skills.

This session will discuss the six key elements of a supply chain and how recruiters can become better at using technology and improving their processes to think like a supply chain manager rather than a recruiter. This can dramatically change the success of a recruitment function

Director & Founder, Future of Talent Institute

Your Difference is your Strength #thefutureisdiverse
Bedi Othow -

Summary:

The face of the Australian workforce is changing. The 80s migration boom welcomed a large number of culturally and linguistically diverse groups to Australia and now their kids are graduating universities and entering the workforce. These first generation Australians are amongst the 4 million entering the workforce, replacing 3.6 million Baby Boomers.

GenZ represent 18 per cent of the Australian and 30 per cent of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population. More than any other generation before them, they are the most unique, culturally diverse, technological saturated, formally educated generation Australia has ever seen. Are you ready for them? Understanding what has shaped them, what their expectations are and what motivates them is critical to hiring them.

But wait, professional Baby Boomers are not retiring in a traditional way. It’s no longer a hard stop and a gold watch. They also have expectations of flexible and valuable contribution well outside of the 9-5 norm.

Are you ready to tap into your power, the power to be different and stand out from your competitors? The future is diverse and your difference is your strength.

Resilience 2.0 (Room: Big Top UP)
Dr. Simon Moss - Charles Darwin University

Summary:

Organisations spend vast amounts of money on initiatives to enhance the resilience of staff – hoping these initiatives will inspire staff to thrive in the workplace, despite unrelenting workloads, incessant change, and many other pressures.

Resilience 2.0 is an approach that recognises that people cannot experience wellbeing unless, they can resolve the causes of distress: the conflicting goals they need to achieve. This approach helps individuals develop the skills they need to reconcile these conflicts and thrive in the workplace.

Delegates will learn how to enhance their capacity to:

  • Reach suitable decisions
  • Uncover innovations
  • Collaborate effectively, and
  • Shape their environment – all strategies that help individuals resolve paradoxes and improve their life circumstances.

Working from Home – the Legal, the Commercial and the Inclusive (Room: Crystal Palace DOWN)
Nick Duggal - Moray & Agnew

Summary:

For workplaces where workers can work from home, WFH during the pandemic has been transformative. But now that workers are able to work from an office, can or should they be compelled to do so?

Lawyer and workplace relations specialist Nick Duggal will examine this from several angles, including:

  • Is it lawful to now require workers to return to their offices, on a full time basis or otherwise?
  • Even if workers can be required to return to the office, should they be made to? Does your policy support maximising worker productivity? Will it affect your company being an employer of choice?
  • How can your WFH policy affect diversity? Does it adversely affect working parents, younger workers or workers from certain socioeconomic backgrounds?

By the end of this session, you should have a clear pathway to come to position on WFH that best suits your workplace’s needs.

A new era of Workforce Intelligence has arrived that has the potential to significantly ‘change the game’ for Talent Functions. Having visibility of talent and skills in your entire ecosystem (internal, external, perm, contingent) is increasingly becoming a reality and presents Talent functions with immense opportunity.
