Are you ready for WGEA’s new Pay Gap legislation? Chances are, you’re not.

From early 2024, businesses of 100+ employees will have their Gender Pay Gap published for all to see and we can expect the media (and social media) to report on this widely. A Brand and Talent nightmare lay ahead for some while others have a huge opportunity at their feet to win hearts, minds and Talent.

In this panel, Dr Samone McCurdy from the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA), Sarah Abbott, Global DEI Leader at Lion, and Reanna Browne, Founder of Work Futures will discuss:

  • Legislation: The What, Why and When of the legislation change;
  • Preparation: How you should be preparing the business and CEO;
  • HR & Productivity: Disengagement and dissent from female employees and allies;
  • Brand: Public backlash and reputational harm;
  • Talent: The impact to attracting and hiring Talent;
  • Remuneration: Lion closed their pay gap once, how they manage hiring and Rem changes with the Pay Gap in mind;
  • Consequences: For failed or incorrect reporting; and
  • Opportunity: Common reasons for Pay Gaps and the Steps to close them.

About Samone

Samone is an experienced gender equality strategist, researcher and change management professional with expertise in gender equality programming, strategy and gender attuned leadership capability development.

Samone has published research and analysis on a range of gendered workplace drivers including paid parental leave, flexible work practices and gendered workplace harm such as sexual harassment and workplace incivility.

Samone has depth of experience working in public and private sector enterprise, training and consulting to Government, NGO’s and small business on Gender Impact Assessment, gender metrics and designing people systems and processes that drive gender equal outcomes and experiences for employees and the community. Prior to her work with WGEA, Samone was the inaugural Gender Equality Adviser for Victoria Police.

About Sarah

Sarah Abbott is a seasoned inclusion and diversity leader working in this field across the manufacturing, education, finance and IT industries in Australia and the USA for 20 years. She is currently the Global Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Leader at Lion where Sarah leads the diversity and inclusion portfolio, with a specific focus on inclusion and belonging.

As well as holding a Masters in Commerce, a Masters in Adult Education and a Bachelor of Business, Sarah is an advocate for those who are the ‘other’ always looking for opportunities to remove barriers and create equity at work.

About Reanna

Reanna is an academically trained and practicing futurist, industry fellow, organisational designer, strategic workforce planner, start-up co-founder, keynote speaker and creative practitioner.

She is the founder of Work Futures – a global strategic foresight consultancy that helps organisations and workers ‘unlearn the future’, build foresight capability and get practical around the future in the present.

She works across a range of sectors including the futures of; work, tech, sport, engineering, banking, defence, water, law, insurance, policing, unions, local government, and government.

Reanna holds an MA in Strategic Foresight from Swinburne University, a post-graduate qualification in Futures from the University of the Sunshine Coast, a BA in Business (HRM) and is a graduate of the Finland Futures Academy and the Shillington School of Graphic Design.
