What's the Story, Morning Glory?

I think most of us are story tellers at some level. I know I am. I love to relate events and snippets of conversations, and put them in the context of a story. So it’s no surprise that storytelling is emerging as a key theme at this year’s ATC2015 Recruitment is Marketing conference.
Because, if you want to really reach and attract top candidates, storytelling is a proven technique to connect with people at an emotional level.  All it takes is a little creativity.
So what are some ways we can incorporate storytelling into our recruitment marketing?
As the saying goes, a picture tells a thousand words.  So maybe moving pictures tell a million words?  Sodexo, who were represented at last year’s conference with Arie Ball (you can view her presentation here), have this down pat on their YouTube channel using real employees to tell their stories.  And how about the Australian Defence Force?  They have some great video contentabout all kinds of roles within the forces.
Not all of us have the tools or resources to create beautiful video content, but we can still inject a bit of storytelling into our career sites, into our blogs and even in our job ads.  Zappos do storytelling really well, and encourage employees to write blogs and share what it’s like to work there.  Here is an example of a recent posting from one of their employees, providing cultural insight for prospective candidates.  At the ATC2015, we will be hearing about the success of Zappos’ Insider Program through Mike Bailen, now Director of Recruiting at Eventbrite, and former Head of Talent at Zappos Family of Companies.
And this is why I am so pleased that Jonathan Crossfield will share his insights into how to use storytelling techniques in your content marketing, and John White will also explore this theme in his breakout session “Inviting Candidates into a New Story”.
Below are a few blogs to get you thinking this week, but in the meantime, let me tell you a story. Once upon a time there was a handsome prince…
