ATC2017 Innovation Lab Sneak Peek (part 1)

The innovation lab is back! Bringing you all the newest and coolest ideas, gadgets, and processes in the world of talent.
Like many industries, talent acquisition & management is going through a lot of disruption. The rise of the gig economy disrupting the workforce, the dual threat and opportunity automation represents, and the general breakneck pace of technology, all contribute to a period of instability and change.
Into that confusion, people have stepped up. Without giving away their innovations and creations, we’re here today to bring you a sneak peek into some of that brain-power. Keep an eye out for part two, and remember to check out the Innovation Lab at the ATC!

Name one interesting fact about yourself. 

I was a child actor for commercials for Air Zimbabwe, curry powder and pork pies!

 In one sentence, what frustration or challenge does your talent innovation solve?

There is a perception that people hate working with recruiters but in reality, they just hate working with the bad recruiters and that’s what our platform is able to resolve for you.

 Did you consider yourself an Innovator or Inventor before this?

Yes, I always wanted to customise solutions and try do things a bit differently with my clients. In hindsight this would have been very annoying for my bosses 😀

Outside of the talent space, what’s your favourite gadget or innovative product?

AirBnB, both for work and travel. I love the story of how the business took off too.

Who would play you in the movie version of your life and why?

Dug, the dog from the movie Up. I’m an optimist who believes in the good in people and just wants to see a happy, abundant world.

 Name one interesting fact about yourself.

I was one of the first 20 people in the world to do a bungy jump.

 In one sentence, what frustration or challenge does your talent innovation solve?

We specialise in removing bias from the global talent market.

 What’s the secret recipe for true innovation?

One part unshakeable optimism, two parts Rhino-like hide, a splash of passion and unshakeable humour (best delivered if you have a wealthy benefactor) 😉

 Outside of the talent space, what’s your favourite gadget or innovative product?

Rocket Lab – an NZ company delivering small payload satellites into low orbit.

Who would play you in the movie version of your life and why?

Jason Statham – same haircut.
 


Name: Tony Wu

 Name one interesting fact about yourself.

I nearly died proposing to the missus on Mt Everest.

 In one sentence, what frustration or challenge does your talent innovation solve?

Our platform allows employers to bypass the middlemen (e.g. agencies) and resolves their immediate staffing issues, allowing them to get back to doing what they love.

What did you do before this venture?

I was actually working as a recruiter manually doing what our platform does automatically which is why I was so sold on the idea!

Outside of the talent space, what’s your favourite gadget or innovative product?

I’m a massive power user of Canva – after using it the first time I deleted illustrator straight away!

Who would play you in the movie version of your life and why?

Anthony Bourdain, as I would love to hear how he would narrate my highs and lows. I also draw heaps of inspiration from him and his life.

 Name one interesting fact about yourself.

I once spent a couple of weeks on an isolated tropical island with friends as part of an environmental research project counting every bird, fish, turtle and other wildlife we saw as we spent the days snorkelling or exploring this small island – still one of the best “holidays” Ive had.

In one sentence, what frustration or challenge does your talent innovation solve?

We help companies and recruiters understand how a candidate fits into a particular business culture via their online reputation and digital footprint.

 What’s the secret recipe for true innovation?   

Understand the actual market need, prioritise the aspects that market needs, share these solutions and consistently deliver, listen and then deliver again!

 Outside of the talent space, what’s your favourite gadget or innovative product?

My Kitchen Mixer – helps create far more inventive baking options and a great reminder not all inventive ideas are successful!

Who would play you in the movie version of your life and why?

Sandra Bullock  great actress who could absolutely do the drama and comedy of my life!
