Day 1: 22nd September, 20158:45 am - 9:30 amGeneral Session - Centralise Your Contingent Workforce Model and Avoid Maverick Spend and Cowboy Activity
Dean Tulloch - IBMSummary:
Centralise Your Contingent Workforce Model and Avoid Maverick Spend and Cowboy Activity
Processes and people do follow structure! If structure is all the people, positions, procedures, processes, culture and technology, then if you create a centralised model you create order. This will require technology, business analytics and an interface of workforce composition/planning to make this work. Dean Tulloch will discuss how he has considered these elements at Telstra to create a structure that will transform their Contingent Workforce Model.
- You need a centrally managed model – otherwise you get maverick spend and cowboy activity
- It needs to be underpinned by technology. Why? If it’s not you can’t get:
- Business Intelligence and Analytics. And if you don’t do that you can’t:
- Inform a Strategic Workforce Planning process. If you don’t have SWP, you can’t:
- Make decisions on your blended workforce.
But if you have all of this – or most of it – you are on your way to: an optimised Labour model.

Trevor Vas - ATC Events & Media

Peter Oreb - CXC GlobalSummary:
The Future Workforce & How We Get There
Much has been written about the future workforce composition. There are many forecasts about the increase in contingent labour, the use of freelancers, the increase in automation and robotics.
These trends will impact organisations in different ways based on the types of industries and their agility and ability to implement change. These experts will each provide their view of the future workforce. They will then each lead a round table to discuss how organisations will implement the changes. This will be an interactive session where you will get a real chance to understand the future and how it will impact you.

Day 1: 22nd September, 201510:15 am - 11:00 amGeneral Session - Does Your Culture Prevent You From Hiring The Optimum Resource?
Stuart Elliott - Stuart Elliott ConsultingSummary:
Does Your Culture Prevent You From Hiring The Optimum Resource?
Many organisations are stuck in certain paradigms about workers. These beliefs can be based on things like, “the CEO doesn’t like contractors”, “we’ve always hired permanent staff” or “permanent staff are more loyal and provide better value”. These beliefs do not represent market reality and in fact can hinder your organisation from acquiring the best talent for that job, project, or team.
Additionally, as organisations are getting more project centric and looking for agility, the type or resource hired can have a significant impact on these goals as well.
In this session, Stuart will discuss his considerations in hiring the workforce of the future. Delegates will learn how to balance the contingent and permanent workforce to create optimum results for all stakeholders, and create lasting success.

Trevor Vas - ATC Events & MediaSummary:
Implementing your Contingent Workforce Solution: What Can Go Wrong Will Go Wrong (unless you follow these simple steps)
You have agreed the Contingent Workforce Model, Stakeholders have signed off the business case, you have selected your suppliers and technology. Ready, Set, Go – you are ready to implement.
Implementing the Contingent Workforce Solution moves the state of play from an idea to reality. As with any major initiative, your approach to Change Management will have a negative or positive impact on the success of the project.
Considerations:
- Will your existing suppliers play ball?
- Who are your existing contractors? Are they critical to the business?
- Are there any risky ‘legacy’ contracts in place? Will moving these contractors into a more governed model cause claims for employee or leave entitlements?
- What about the Hiring Managers? Are they really on board?
- Big Bang or Phased Implementation?
- Do you have a rock solid project sponsor to stand behind you?
This workshop will provide you with some tactics and insights into how to approach implementing your contingent workforce solution successfully.
