Thriving During Disruption: The Role of People Management

Over the last 2 decades we have witnessed several major technological, demographic and social-political changes that have had a dramatic impact on numerous sectors. Newspapers, postal services, mobile devices, and phone services are all examples of industries that have seen dramatic upheaval due to dramatic disruptions. In theory major disruptions can create new and often bigger opportunities for organisations. Yet, in reality not all organisations are able to take advantages of these opportunities, which can lead to low organisational performance or even failure.

In this session Dr. Williamson will discuss the barriers organisations face when attempting to respond to major external disruptions, such as how leaders frame disruptions, the need to develop new measures of performance, and the need to redefine what is a “talented employee”.  Dr. Williamson will discuss how the people management decisions made by leaders help determine whether organisations thrive or fail during these times.  The talk will provide practical strategies leaders can use to better prepare their organisations to deal with current and future disruptions in their environments.
