2024 Innovation Lab: Talent Tech Pitch Off

Reflections on EVP, Personal Branding, and Lessons from the Eras Tour

This week, amidst the buzz of Black Friday sales, I’ve been reflecting on the importance of continually revisiting and redesigning your Employee Value Proposition (EVP) and taking the time to unpack your personal brand.

Last week, I discussed our hackathon – a fantastic event that allowed our tech employees to pitch new ideas and innovate. It provided valuable time away from their routine to focus on innovation, aligning perfectly with our EVP.

EVP: A Marathon, Not a Sprint

Your EVP journey is a marathon, not a sprint. Once you’ve nailed it, the work doesn’t stop there. You should constantly review and refine it. What new and innovative solutions can you incorporate into your current offering?

A compelling EVP supports your business strategy. Find your niche and own it. The best brands succeed because they know who they are and stay true to their vision instead of following the crowd.

At Globird, for instance, our ZeroHero energy plan exemplifies innovation. It’s designed to offer customers a hassle-free way to maximise returns from solar energy and home batteries. It’s simple, efficient, and perfectly aligned with our focus on meeting daily needs.

Lessons from the Eras Tour for Your EVP

If you’re a Taylor Swift fan, you know her Eras Tour wraps up this weekend. But beyond the music, there’s so much to learn about branding that can inspire your EVP refresh.

  1. Know Your Audience: You’re not here for everyone, and that’s okay. Serve your audience well, and they’ll feel that connection.
  2. Always Think Ahead: Each success builds momentum – the big album leads to the song of the summer, which fuels the world’s biggest tour and so on.
  3. Cross-Promotion Opportunities: Partnering with others can introduce fresh perspectives and broaden your audience.
  4. Focus on the Experience: Memorable experiences, like light-up bracelets at concerts, create lasting impressions.

Uncover Your Superpower: Personal Branding

December is a month of reflection, celebration, and recognising your achievements. While refining your employee brand, don’t overlook your personal brand. Personal branding involves defining and showcasing your unique value proposition.

As Jeff Bezos famously said, “Your brand is what people say about you when you’re not in the room.”

A strong, well-managed personal brand offers several benefits. It boosts your visibility among key stakeholders, helps expand your network, and opens doors to new opportunities. On a deeper level, it helps you uncover and celebrate your unique strengths – your superpower.

I recently attended an inspiring session by Haystack Executive on crafting personal brands. Key takeaways included:

  • Engaging deeply with new perspectives drives growth.
  • Preparing for the unexpected.
  • Finding your inner performer to create impact.

Articles that caught my attention this week:

How can recruiters master their personal brand?

EVP meets business strategy meets personal brand. It’s a great webinar playback to get a high level introduction to all 3.

Deep diving into our business

I am listening to the Sustainability Tracker Podcast– I am spending time emersed in podcasts about the energy transition. Take a listen, you will think differently about your energy bill I promise you.

Becoming a self-aware deliberate leader

The Deliberate Leader Podcast– A great listen to hear from other leaders weekly. The most recent episode talks all about being a more decisive leader.
